In a twist of incredible irony, the British geneticist who claimed that Blacks were ‘less intelligent’ than other races has discovered he has 16 times the amount of African heritage than the average European. James Watson, a Nobel Prize winning Geneticist had an analysis done of his genome, was also diagnosed as being 16% Black African, and 9% Asian.
Watson once stated that he was “inherently gloomy about the prospects for Africa” because
“all our social policies are based on the fact that their intelligence
is the same as ours – whereas all the testing says not really”. He continued that he hoped everyone was equal,
but that “people who have to deal with black employees find this is not
Geneticists almost unanimously agree that this is total nonsense. Esteemed Geneticist Craig Venter said: “Skin colour as a surrogate for race is a social
concept, not a scientific one. There is no basis in scientific fact or in
the human genetic code for the notion that skin colour will be predictive of
Skin colour is no necessarily an indication of ethnic heritage, (as Mr Watson’s Genome mapping has also determined). In a BBC report earlier
this year, the ancestry of several celebrities indicated that their
physical appearance had little to do with their actual ancestry. Black
singer Neguinho da Beija-Flor discovered 67% of his genes were European, and only 31% African.
Sergio Pena, professor of biochemistry at the Federal
University of Belo Horizonte, who led the genetic analysis stated:
“Only a few genes are responsible for someone’s skin
colour, which is a very poor indication of ancestry. A white person
could have more African genes than a black one or vice-versa,
especially in a country like Brazil,”.
Another earlier report from Brazil concluded:
“It is interesting to
note that the group of individuals classified as blacks had a very high
proportion of non-African ancestry (48%),” they wrote.
Our study makes clear the hazards of equating colour or race with geographical ancestry and
using interchangeably terms such as white, Caucasian and European on
one hand, and black, Negro or African on the other, as is often done in
scientific and medical literature.”
Regardless of the science, the entire premise of Watford’s reasoning is ludicrous. The human
mind is so vastly complex, we only understand a tiny percentage of what
it is capable of. Narrow definitions of intelligence do nothing to
enhance our understanding of the human brain, and only tell us that
certain groups of people do better in certain tests. In a standard
Western IQ test, Aborigines do worse than whites, but in tests that
focus on spatial reasoning,
Aborigines are far superior. Does this mean whites are inferior to
Aborigines? Of course not. It simply means they have a different set of
The same methodology can be applied to sport. As the respected author Jon Entine
has shown, East Africans are better long distant athletes than
Europeans are, but most champion weight lifters are of northern
European descent. Which racial group are the better athletes? Neither.
They are simply different.
These basic concepts of relativity are clearly beyond Watson, and it
is incredible such a famed scientist could utter such nonsense. If
intelligence is colour blind, then the analysis of his genome has
proved that so to is stupidity.
